The rumors were flying last night that the new CEO that 21A had installed last week was already gone and that the whole operation was going to shut down by November 1. But I couldn’t verify that. Well Brewbound (paywalled) has done the legwork and is reporting it as true.
It’s a sad day, the brewery that just celebrated it’s 25th anniversary, was on the leading edge for so many years, and was a favorite place of mine is going to shut down. The contract brewing business, the San Leandro brewery and taproom, and the 2nd Street location in San Francisco are all to be shut down as the founders seek a buyer for the brand and portfolio.
I first set foot in what would become the 21st Amendment taproom on 2nd street at some point in late 2000 or early 2001. It was a soon to be converted garage of some type and was just a shell of a building. What the founder Shaun and Nico accomplished is simply amazing. I wish them all the best.

One of San Francisco's oldest continuously running breweries now, opened in the year 2000 a couple blocks from the under construction SF Giants baseball park, Willie Mays Field. A great selection of house brewed and beers brewed at their production facility in the east bay. Try the cheese curds, you won't regret it.
